curious if anyone has integrated gallery2 and wordpress.

to me it looks it would be a decent match up as far as features go, but i'm not sure how easy it would be having already installed gallery2

wordpress looks like it needs to be the master application, while gallery2 would be a slave to it.

i'd like not to have to start over, and definatley don't want to corrupt the DB i have going now.

any thoughts?

thanks,
tim

Try looking at this:

//wpg2.galleryembedded.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

and a helper for it:

//g2image.steffensenfamily.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

well i successfully installed wordpress into the same database as the gallery2 install. they are prefixed to differentiate them within the same database. that's what was making me worry. the install instructs said to create a new database for wordpress, but i only have one to work with. so it came down to tables, and everything seems to have gone smoothly.

they both seem to run seperately fine.

going to mess with the integration plugin shortly. hopefully it will go as smoothly... got to love open source software ! i try to donate to the creators of the apps i end up using - after a bit of a testing period of course...

so i got everything integrated pretty easily. been messing with layout and color a bit. nothing too fancy until i am certain i'm going to stick with the backends. but if you're interested in how it ties together. you can have a look here./

oh yeah, there is only one silly post i put up just to see how the text fell into place and what not... if you click the photo in the post - gallery2 will load inside the wordpress page, and you'll be able to view the gallery2 just like you would without wordpress - less the sidebar functionality. but that can be incorporated into the wordpress side bar ro some degree.

any feedback would be appreciated.

I never liked WP that much, but I am/was (don't have much time for it, recently) one of the G2 developers.

I use it standalone on my family site, and integrated with Drupal for my photo site, and my wife's business.

alright. then what is lacking with WP that drupal provides?

i sort of the like the interface of wordpress, where as text editing with only gallery2 was a pain. not to say it isn't a great application. but everything has it's limits... with limted time, i'd like to be able to manage photos and text with as little effort on the backend as possible.

thanks for you efforts with gallery2 ;}

Well, primarily, WP is nothing more than a blog. Drupal is a full-blown extensible content-management system used by large groups. (For instance, did you know that The Onion is run on Drupal?) It handles not only frontpage/news postings, but users, forums, blogs, calendars, ... you name it and it can, or already does, exist.

Yeah, text editing in G2 has always been a bit of a sore-spot. The WP interface is well put-together - I have no issues with it, there.

i don't want to have to worry about tying down a bunch of features i'll likely never use. as best as i am capable, i'd like to keep it simple...

I was never suggesting that it was better for your purposes. Just offering an alternate viewpoint.

ozgreg (The WPG2 developer) is a good guy, if a little high-strung sometimes, and a number of G2 developers use WPG2. h0bbel, for instance.
