Several banks where using IBM Mainframes running Mutlics until 2000. Multics was designed in 1969 prior to unix. Multics was considered a failure.
Yet there were banks used it until 2000. |

I'm sure there are banks still without computers somewhere in the world. The point of upgrading is speed to be able to proccess more in less time. I work with banks on a daily basis and can tell you for certain Banks don't upgrade unless it makes more money for them.
