I am planning to get an account on PBase to expand my portfolio. Are any of you happy with PBase services, any problems, complains, difficulties???
Thanks.

I'm very happy with Pbase. They had a lot of problems a few months ago where it was down quite a bit. Slug upgraded servers and all that stuff and I can't recall more than one or two small gliches in the last several months. For me, it is so worth the few dollars you put out for the storage room. I use it to post proofs of my portrait shoots. I started my own website, but I have to make all the pages that go on it, so when I'm in a hurry, Pbase is the faster easier alternative. I totally think it's worth it.

I, too, have been happy with PBase's service. I have my own server at home for models to access and select photos from their photo sessions but just for a good, cheap online album, PBase does what I want and I didn't have to install any little upload pieces or write code to handle access or display or anything. It's handy.

I paid the $25 for an account at PBase. 100MB not bad. I kind of forgot about my PBase site. I've been uploading my pics to my new web site, but I should update PBase too. It seems to be more reliable (less down time) lately.

I really like my pbase account - it's easy to send off links to people and post with links - no worries about them having to go through numberous screens or enter a username/password before they can see the pic.
Even though I'm building a web site, I still post to pbase because I'd rather use that space and bandwidth...

Thanks guys, I think I will dive in. I've been lurking around PBase for a while and enjoying the freebies they offer, but I want to get the full benefits, so I am going to pay their small fee.
I was deciding between PBase and SmugMug, but PBase look seems more pro to me. Especially after I learn to understand the style sheets, I will be able to set it up really nice.
thx.

I don't know about the other sites, but pbase allows you to embed pictures at other sites like here in the dpc forums. Some have a rule against that or block the requests.
(Another satisfied pbase client)

Ditto -- and they have a pretty easy way of doing it too. |

I love my Pbase account.
Not only is it an inexpensive and simple to use online gallery, but a Pbase 'community' is developing there as well. There are numerous people invloved in the "Photo A Day" project, where everyone posts a photo every single day for a year. Lots of people cruise Pbase each day, leaving comments on the Photo A Day sites. There is also a 26 Things Part 2 photo scavenger hunt going on. Numerous User groups use Pbase to conduct their own weekly challenges (ie Canon DSLR groups, Olympus groups, Sony groups, etc... most are based out of //www.dpreview.com).
I post shots to numerous galleries, my Daily Photo project, the 26 things project, etc, etc. They are all viewable by the public. Images that I have edited and are print quality are stored in a non-public gallery. I have various back-up methods at home, but I also put copies of my best images, full size, on Pbase in a private gallery. I can access it for prints no matter where I am in the world!
Cons... when they out grow their servers, they have a downtime that lasts a couple of days. It has happened twice in two years that I can recall. The only other con I know of is their search engine is pretty weak.
I highly recommend having a Pbase account. If you are interested in the 'projects' I mentioned above, just visit my Pbase gallery and there are links and info there...

i agree with all. pbase has been a good experience. the only bad thing is that I have a website too - so I don't use it as much as I should. I like it and the community there - but the url isn't very friendly. If they ever give the ability to use your own url - I would be in heaven.
