It's quite easy, it tells you for each entry the average for voters with cameras?
for instance:
ave with camera: 6
ave without camera: 1
It doesn't matter how many people voted '1' without a camera my average from people with a camera is 6
|
But it matter entirely how many people were in both of those groups. If 1000 people voted "6" and 1 person voted "1" then you'd get 5.995, but if 1000 people voted "1" and 1 person voted "6" you'd get 1.004.
So the group size determines your finishing average. And I'm fairly sure from previous threads that the group size of users without cameras is "small". |
It's the entire group size that matters (total number of voters) since these subgroups are irrelevant in the average calculation. |

That solves the problem allright. No people blocked from anything and no shortcuts. Me like. |

Next thing you know someone will want to restrict entries to only those with cameras....

Most photograph buyers are people who are not even that interested in holding a camera themselves. The best art critics and most buyers do not paint or sculpt or whatever themselves.
Maybe we should have a challenge where only those without a camera can vote because the ones with a camera are biased. Really.

In my experience, especially further in the past when fewer members had cameras listed, the difference between the camera and non-camera owners' votes can be quite enlightening. It seems to me that more out-of-the-box, technically difficult/well lit&composed photographs score higher by the camera owners, and more subject-oriented or cliche images score higher by the non-owners. None of which is very surprising really. But i've always appreciated having the two statistics separated for me from the overall average. Perhaps a third statistic of votes by ribbon winners might be rather educational...

Maybe we should make it so that only those people with Canon cameras should be allowed to vote... After all Nikon users definately have no taste... JK, I don't see the point. A handful of lowballers will not affect the outcome of any challenge.

Me too. I renewed it to support the site, and I intend on buying a point and shoot to submit to challenges again this year. |

I've been supporting the site by buying gift memberships (3 in the last year), should that make my vote count three times? :D
---
I do have a phone that came with a phone -- does that count?
It's not listed in the camera section so I can't add it.

Interesting proposition.
I think I like this slight variation better.
"Only those who are currently pooping allowed to vote..Trial?" |

hilarious - exclude other undesirables & deadbeats such as welfare moms & ex-cons.
Removing the category is the best suggestion yet. |
