I was wondering if I can make a sepia picture for an open challenge (basic editing)
From my original I just sharp, resize and convert to sepia. |

sure can: you may...saturate, desaturate or change the colors of your entry, but no selections are allowed. as long as you do it to the entire image you are good.

One thing you may need to be careful of, not 100% certain, is to do your conversion to sepia I'm pretty sure you need to do it using hue & saturation and not a special effects filter.
From the Basic Rules: No “effects” filters may be applied to your image, with the exception of Noise and Gaussian Blur.
Double-check with SC on it to be sure ('contact us' form). |

The "you may change colours" rule covers it. By "effects filter", they're referring not to colour changes, but to things like adding texture, the various "artistic" and brushstroke filters in PS, and the like. Colour changes are legal. |

I know there are some filters that apply photo specila effects, sepia tone is one. I understand what you're saying. The duotones challenge comes to mind - the color conversion had to be done using hue/sat adjustment instead of special filters if I remember correctly.
Just thought I'd toss that out to be safe. As tempting as it is to use the Photo/Black & White, or Sepia Tone effects filters that PSP X offers, I stick to hue/sat adjustments for Basic Ruleset challenges (I'm just cautious that way I guess). It hard to get the same results doing it manually rather than using the photo filters. :( |
