The DPReview forums rumour mill is pretty quiet right now so I would guess not. The talk has been of a new professional level camera this year - guessing over 3 grand. If the D80 is your budget level, get that. Save your money for high quality lenses, which in my opinion, are more important than the camera body.

Pentax is supposed to replace the K10D in September or so, and Canon should replace the 30D around the same time, but neither of those are Nikon... :p

the guys at my local camera store tell me to look for a new top end Nikon, and mumbled something about a full size sensor.

I'll believe it when I see it - but I think the D200 and D80 are going to be the mid-range players for a while.

The D80 is less than 8 months old. The previous model (D70/D70s) was on the market for 30 months. I would certainly not expect any update to the D80 this year. At very most an incremental update late in the Fall, but I doubt even that.
I *do* think that Nikon will come forth with their first 35mm frame offering this year, however it's a near-certainty that this will be pro-level body with price to match.

they *might* pull another fast one like they did the d40 and release a d80x all of a sudden, lol!
