...and she didn't take a picture of them?!
jk, that's a major scary story. Everyone should kep on guard when they're out on a shoot alone, or let someone know where you're going.

I have reason to believe I was once very close to danger when I was taking roadside flower pix along a highway once not that long ago. I had been traveling from an event that I shoot every year and the wildflowers along the roadway became irresistable so I pulled over. I had been taking pix for about 10 minutes and completely engrossed in what I was doing when I heard a noise that instantly registered as the rumble strips. I looked up and some junky black, mostly painted with spray paint, car was turning around. I started back to my car and a little voice told me to run... so I did. I got to my car and locked the door right as the other car pulled up. An unsavory looking young man with a big black dog was in it and yelling to me if I wanted to smoke some pot. I shook my head and drove off. (I had gotten my car started & in gear as he sidled up next to me and started hollering.)
I later asked a friend of mine, who is keen on statewide safety & security issues, if I was really in danger and he said you bet your behind you were, you did the right thing. It's definitely still the wild wild west out here and banditos are a real thing. They now often pose as people in 'trouble' along the roadside with others out of sight to help with the ambush. (He's helped catch one set of them) I've also seen a woman scantily clad (bra & panties) with a shirt in her hand running down the road from a truck with a man in it.... I was only a minute from my destination so I didn't stop. When I got there my friend who was only 3 minutes in front of me saw the exact same scene..... we called the sherriff to report her (them) as potential robbers, not as a person in distress. They packed up & left (in the same vehicle) only minutes before the sherriff arrived. It's a sad day.... I now stop for NO ONE, EVER and I don't get out of my car very often for roadside pix either.
edit: typos

It's a shame we live in the kind of day and age where these are real worries. I went up the mountain tonight to take some pictures and our battery died completely! Luckily, a deputy's wife stopped to help us, and, when she couldn't, she sent the sheriff to help us. But the whole time we were waiting, I worried someone unsavory would stop and that no one savory would stop for fear we were unsavory!
P.S. Good quality jumpers are a must - turns out mine were crap.
