It has recently been brought to my attention that there are photos at DPC. I'd like to share some examples. I think the discussion of what is a photo can be easy, if you all will agree with me.
I hope that this thread can keep on the topic of photos which are popular at this site, and, most importantly, not shift into discussing anything other than what I think are photos.
I used some recent ribbon-winning entries for illustration. [This is nothing personal towards their authors: I simply went into the Challenge History and picked the first several images that suited my need.] Actually I cheated and stole them from another thread, but you get the point.
1. There are photos
(by, respectively Joey Lawrence, librodo, Larus, and heida)
2. Look I found photos
(by, respectively, scalvert, moonwell, Telehubbie, and De Sousa
3. Photos of a Thing
(by, respectively, NikonJeb, IreneM, and eyewave)
4. Photos that make money
(by, respectively, mpeters, yanko, and Shaurya)
Interestingly enough they are all photos.

That's quite a claim. What's good about them? |

My first criteria is that a camera was used to take them. Beyond that the subject is too subjective to classify. But I did edit my OP to be more specific as to what they are.

I think we need to keep the discussion to what is NOT photography.
I found these examples on DPC:

Do please try to refraim from side tracking this thread. While those are certainly NOT photos, if we declare them as such we have to classify them as to why they aren't photos.

Where is Art when you need him? Are these Art? Or is he a mythical abstract that passes for Art?
I visited an Art gallery once, he wasn't there, just a load of old pictures pretending to be photos. I think it was called the Tate Gallery or something like that? |

Umm... There's a place/location in the world called DPC and these images were taken there? Interesting. This DPC seems to be a highly variable environment. |

I have never noticed this before. But this site is FULL of photos.
Most of them are GREAT photos.
Is the site council aware that this site has photos uploaded to this site every day of the year? |

IMO (which means should be YOUR opinion also) this is the only art gallery worth viewing. Here

I think you are making broad generalizations to describe them as photos. Technically they are links to computer files that contain image data. My web browser then renders that data into an image, but I think it's a stretch to call them photos. This is an example of what's wrong with photography. Please think before you post. |

i only read the third through fifth words of your response... (which is "you are right" in case he sneakily tries to edit his response). my response to your response is "thank you." |
