I've been pricing the Canon 2X converter...$280 @ B&H(under 'L' lenses) and $430 @ a local store. Usually the local store is fairly close to B&H, but these prices are not even remotely close. So what am I not understanding, are there different 2X converters available from Canon?

Thanks!

There was a mkI and now there's a mkII. The main difference is that the mkII is weathersealed. There is, apparently a very tiny difference in edge sharpness. I don't know of any other Canon teleextenders. I would suggest talking to the local store and enquire whether they might have made an error in pricing.

It's not unusual for the local price of this item to be really out of whack. I've found the same thing at, for instance, Calumet, which is usually competitive in their in-store pricing. I've been told that it's because it's a low-volume item; this may or may not be factual.
