My entry into the multi-light challenge was a photo of an ice sculpture ("Ice Palace") at the international ice carving festival in Fairbanks Alaska. Well, someone made the comment that I should "stop stealing other peoples art". I got quite a chuckle out of that... as if we can't enter photos of sculptures, statues, or anything we didn't make ourselves by hand? And that got me wondering, what are some of the silliest comments DPC members have received on their photos?
BTW - if you'ld like to see more of those beautiful ice sculptures you can view them here:
Ice Sculptures
There were also some beautiful lighted (Psychedelic) sled runs made from blocks of ice that can be seen here:

Ok, here's mine:
First - the blur effect is horrible. Maybe your photo was good, but you have edited it into something bad.
Second - The challenge say "Use a colorful impact to offset your subject from the rest of the photograph". What is your subject, and what is the rest of your photograph exactly? Is your subject the pink flower in the middle? the yellow flowers on the top? There is nothing that draws my eye except for the sloppy blur. For me this is not meeting the challenge.
And this was from my friend... but of course, she didn't know it was my photo in the challenge. Tee hee. For some reason, even then, I just giggled it was so . . .I don't know. . .so. . .ridiculously negatively passionate.

Wow Sandy, they didn't hold anything back! :)

Edited...
OK I am pulling mine out so no one else will think I am flaming someone. I though they were both silly, but I wouldn't want to hurt anyone feelings even though one of the commenters is no longer at DPC. I am not a confrontational person by nature.
Have great weekend all!

You know, it's threads like this that keep people from making honest comments. Who would want to be outed and ridiculed in a public forum for taking the time to make a comment - whether it makes sense to the recipient or not.
Don't mark them helpful if you feel they aren't, but please don't broadcast them here. It doesn't take much time for someone to search your comments and find out who said what.

I thought I should point out the silly comment that I made on this submission:
The highlights are blown out here. I can't see any details in the foreground. The chipmunk in the left tree is cute but I wonder why you cropped his tail. Your horizon is also quite skewed.
That aside this is also quite blurry. I would recommend using a tripod and/or turning up the ISO and using a faster shutterspeed.
This certainly meets the challenge.
ETA: Strangely they didn't find my comments helpful! :)

Ummmmmm. . .no, Gatorguy, some comments are so rude and unnecessary that they deserve to be pointed out and made light of. Notice, its not the honest, constructive ones that are getting called down. In my case it was an inappropriately negative, rude comment that the person should not have submitted, and they should be called down for it in my opinion.

Guess we shouldn't mention names, aye? But maybe we can all learn what a "silly comment" is while getting a smile or two out of them.... and maybe learn that it is OK to photograph statues and enter them into challenges. I'd sure want to know if asny of my comments are considered silly... it would be part of the learning process. |

I think we're just looking for silly stuff here, not a public flame forum. In my case at least, the commentor himself found it amusing after rollover. |

Now THAT would be against the forum rules. "Do not attack other users. This includes "calling out" specific comments or commenters in a hostile manner." |

I beg to differ. The topic is "silly" not rude, negative, inappropriate. I agree with GatorGuy. |

This from aimeethetoo on a shot where I dressed in drag as punishment for losing a bet.
"Oh that poor little kiddo - that little face filled with trepidation (don't worry little cutie - she looks sweet and gentle)! Love the composition and the b&w - great lighting too. Back to bump you up to 8. Well done. ****** On second thought kid RUN!!! It looks like she's packin' a pistol!"
The edit came after she found out it was me.

Mine wasn't silly and in fact was a good comment, but it did crack me up, and I told the author so.
Ahh yes the headless crop. Its an approach many people have taken to this challenge. In all but one or two cases the technique hasn't really worked. |
