At lunch today my Canon 580EX fell from the camera bracket which was mounted on a tripod. I attached it and hit the pilot - which fired. However, the flash would not fire when taking photos. So I checked the pins. One of them is stuck inside - there is just a tad of metal poking out of the plastic. It doesn't look like enough to grab but I might be able to get it with tweezers.
Would you recommend doing something or doing nothing and sending it in?
If I can't get it with tweezers is there any use in removing the screws that are closest to this area?

just order a new "foot" for your flash and exchange it yourself, it's fairly easy. |

Crisis Over
I removed the four screws around the foot. I could then see the other side of the pin. The wire was firmly attached. I could move the pin up and down, but it was not springing back into place. I removed the circuit board (carefully, there are springs beneath it) and the dial. The spring around that pin was in good shape (this was an odd find... I was expecting the spring to be compacted). It seemed to function normally. So I checked the hole the pin shoots throughâ€Â¦ I bored it out the tiniest of bits. I fitted the dial back onâ€Â¦ and the pin moved freely! So I sewed her all back up and did a quick testâ€Â¦ pin seems to function normally again and the flash fired from the camera. Will need to test moreâ€Â¦ but don’t foresee any further problem. Yea!
