I REALLY need to go buy some lenses! Not sure if any of you would know, but which lens would be a good lens that could get me a variety of effects? Is there a lens that could get me a good macro close up, and a good zoom on an animal far away? I don't have tons of money either..haha. I'm probably asking for the impossible-a cheap magnificent lens.

yeah i dont have the lens option,or even a macro setting, but i have a few ideas and i think i can get pretty close, less than 3 ft,in florida i shouldnt have any trouble finding the bugs(lots of them, big ones too),now if the sun would just pop out a lil(flashlight with diffuser-rig if i must)may have to do for today...lol,i feel like mcguyver, the lot next door is vacant and jungle-like,i think the owner lives in costa rica,i keep forgettin theres plenty of time on this too,...good,will be fun.luck to yas all, look out for snakes! hehe

So, I went to look at different SLR cameras over the weekend, I can't afford one now, but I almost feel like I have a handicap, haha, everyone keeps saying the "P&S" shooters, and having that ability to take close up pictures makes me excited about the insect challenge, but my favorite photos to take are actually landscape, so I would eventually like an SLR. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about the best kinds, or maybe a good way to searh for cheaper ones online.
Oh, I am also very excited about MAY 1st!!

Check out THIS THREAD this is an amazing deal!!

Rebels are easy to use and don't have 1,000,000 buttons to learn to use. Took me just one month to go full manual all the time :) it is also small enough that I have no trouble holding it with my small hands :)

Man, I wish I had that money now, by the time I am able to afford it (probbaly a couple of months), it'll probably already be sold, but I'm gonna ask, thank you! I've been looking at this site (the equipement section) because it seems to lead to good deals, I actually have manual settings down on my Canon, that's mostly what I use, so getting a Canon Rebel would be a good switch because it's a little more like the controls I'm used to.

Good luck no matter what you decide :) I know how exciting it can be to get a new camera... My own upgrade from the kodak felt like... magic LOL

Today i went out and shot some dragonflies for the insect challenge.
but the minimal editing says you can't shoot in RAW. They only accept JPEG. Keep that in mind guys.

hehe and this is where I just may have the upper hand ;)

bwahahhahhahaaaa

Bummer on the unenterable shots but at least you have some portfolio fodder :)

Ok, Noobies, I took another photo because the bench one had no thought put into it & was kind out the first thing I saw (I know...bad Noob), so I will agree with Lonz that it was "poopy" :), this one was taken this weekend with much better lighting, the only real editing done was cropping. Let me know what you think.

Team Noob is SOOOOO gonna kick some butt!
I just barely got finished with some sad photo's for the insect challenge. Its sad because, all the bugs around here are dead. haha.

Grrrr.... no insects when its SNOWING! When will spring begin? Friggen Ohio weather...

ok folks... here's my DQ'ed (mnnn heath Blizzzard) "Changed" submission... I think if I had kept with the size I would have been close to a ribbon.

also... thanks for noticing my free study... it was fun to create and I felt it was fitting for this time of year.

Good job Lonz. Your "changed" submission would have done really well! Here's mine. Not too high scoring, a little off-the-wall, but fun to shoot!

I saw your submission... gave it a 5 - would have scored it higher if the vase was more "included" in the composition.
04/10/2007 10:26:11 AM · #394
Yeah...I think that is what a lot of people were thinking. I wanted the vase to be separated however. I think that it added to the title "Psycho". Nothing in that picture is really supposed to make sense. :)

I liked this one, I gave it an 8, at first the vase didn't seem to place well with the picture, but then I realized if the guy wass crazy he could have some weird obseession with vases...haha, good job!

Lonz, Photoshop 5 does have adjustment layers, and thanks everyone for the comments, I'm glad you liked the "secret garden" photo more, it was more my style.

ok... thats a good start... try doing multiple levels adjustment layers... I dont think ps5 has curves... so levels will do fine... take time to play with the sliders and even the blend modes of the layers... for example the blend mode of soft light if you paint in black gives you a burned contrasty photo... also feel free to copy your picture layer and experiment with different blend modes... even though its not legal in basic editng on here you should get some good ideas... the basic editing ruleset has MANY cracks in it... you can always circumvent the rules if you know what your doing... when the Contre Jour challenge finishes I'll show you a pic that looks completely advanced edited, but its really in the basic rule set. If you want to... pm me your snail mail address and I'll burn some videos for you.. they play on quicktime, which shouldnt be a problem to get free online.... that goes for the entire group... //movielibrary.lynda.com/authors/author/?aid=43 I have the first two... lightroom training and cs2 - the cs2 should give tease out some good tips for Ps5

i think my "literal" approach to the contre jour challenge probably wasnt the best of ideas, ive got an entry in bicycles, mabe it'll do better, lol, still waiting on better weather for the insect challenge(should be fun).btw tuff break lonz on the DQ,Leisha i liked your pic alot sorry i didnt get to it to vote on it,i did vote on lonz's cleveland indian pic(7) go braves while im at it...

Hey Kelly-I tried an edit on your "secret garden" photo because I thought it was so pretty! :) I'm not sure if I did it good or harm, but do you care if I post it?
