You're entitled to your opinion of SLR vs. point and shoot, of course, but picture quality usually isn't much different for his uses. He was extremely grateful, and he can take video with it, too, without needing a second device to lug around.
But I don't recognize the camera you're talking about. Mine turns on instantly, shoots at 2.5 fps, focuses quickly, and takes shots that have earned me 6.5+ here at DPC. I also took my recent color portrait shot, which is of my daughter, using a point and shoot. Maybe our definitions of "frustration" are different.
Shrug.
Anyway, sorry for the hijack.

Asking the OP what she intends to do with the camera is one thing that may enable us to answer her question better. Telling her she is not yet ready to upgrade is something else entirely. Your statement carries an undertone of "you don't yet know how to use your current camera so the upgrade would be wasted on you" - something that you are certainly are in no position to judge. |
Thanks for your opinion, I really appreciate it.
What do you say that next time you have a problem with the way someone replied to a post that you PM them with your opinion and not waste the space not answering the OP's question?
I invite you to enlighten him (all of us really) as to the pros and cons since you say you know the features so well. |
My opinion wasn't for your benefit. I was telling you you were out of line, and still are. You can talk about wasting space by talking off-topic, but not while doing it yourself. I already contributed to this discussion what little positive input i had to offer. I don't really feel i ought to be defending myself here. If you have nothing useful to contribute, that's fine, i certainly don't feel it's my place to pick you up on that. But if you're just going to insult the OP based on her question, that is not fine, and i am not going to be bullied out of defending her.

Thank you very much for all those that offered constructive replies to my question, all your input has been taken in and I have now made my decision.
Also thank you to those who spoke up and defended me regarding the intent of this post. My ability as a photographer was not the question I was posing and the negative responses to my ability is the main reason why I don't enter challenges or post photos in my portfolio. |

Hifi, don't hold back from entering challenges. It's a great way to get feedback.

PUH-LEASE! Your two overly sensitive reactions are reason why I don't like to reply or comment on photos.
People take crap too personally and need to grow some thicker skin.
My advice was to rethink why you really need to spend so much money on a new body when you already have two very capable ones.
It is totally acceptable to point out that the 1d Mark III won't yield better results than what is posted in your profile.
Get a digital Hassy then. |

I think Hifi should get the MK-III because the MK-II dont appear to be an "upgrade" to her existing 5D, especially in terms of FPS, which is important for her sport shoots.

I find it more interesting that after a week since the OP made a decision and thanked people for their input, and you made a big deal about not wasting forum space by not answering OP's question with bickering, you decide to post another reply trying to prod the OP by posting an 8 month old thread where she asked for some upgrade advice.

Yeah, I made a huge deal about wasting space ... 1 line.
Get over it. |
