I don't suppose that anyone knows the GPS coordinates to the meeting site?

I went to google and this should get you pretty close:

Hope this helps.

Glad to see we're still getting together. Now if only I was still able to mount my camera on my tripod (stripped threads on the camera).

I'll be there at the start time, but will have to leave at 2 so I can get back in time for a birthday dinner. But a few hours is better than no hours!

Remember to all get your name tattooed on your heads so that we know who everyone is. *g*

Sorry you can't make it Tammy.

Really, you cant miss me - I promise that not one of you will have any problem figuring out who I am. There is a spectacular cloud of chaos and eccentricity that follows me everywhere.

:)

Um, Anyone want to re-post the meet-up info with the finalities? Where we are meeting, times, lunch stuff, ect... I'm leaving tomorrow early in the AM for the campground with family in tow and I'm having terrible luck meeting up with any one from DPC this summer.

See you all there!

I am pretty sure I won't be coming now. :(

Maybe next time!

Here is a basic schedule for July 22nd (Sunday) for our adventure:

Meet around 8-8:30am ish (giving people enough time to drive?) at the falling waters parking lot in the Franconia Notch State Park.

*The Falling waters trail is a 1.4 mile easy hike, that includes:
-Walker Cascades
-Stair Falls
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=366&p=0
-Swiftwater Falls
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=374&p=0
-Cloudland Falls
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=76&p=0

I figure we may need about 3 hours or so here(though time doesnt really matter), I would suggest walking to the end and the woking our way back taking photo breaks along the way.

From here is everyone can agree, we can head over to the flume gorge state park (11-12ish) which is a very beautiful water flow and falls area. (If everyone would like to bring something we could setup in the corner and have lunch here, like a DPC Cookout). Nathan, as you are going there can you check my rates I have posted and make sure that there are places to eat, like picnic tables out in the parking lot? Thanks.

//www.flumegorge.com/
//www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=547&p=0

Rates
Adult: $10.00
Child (ages 6-12): $7.00
5 & under: Free

Then if we are not all dead tired, I figured we can head over to the Basin, (2-3:30ish) Inside the basin there are multiple falls as well, highlights include:

-0.1 mile hike to the Basin
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=37&p=0
-0.2 miles to the Cascades
-0.5 miles to kinsman falls (20 ft drop)
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=196&p=0
-1.0 miles to Rock Glenn Falls

Then from here around 5 or 6ish for those who are intersted, we could head over to artist bluff, and catch the sun setting over the mountains.

1)There are other possiblilites as well, such as the Arethusa Falls trail the is a moderate hike to, I have been there twice and it is definately to your advantage to go in the early morning here as it is a popular hike in the notch and has many people visiting. Also the sun in the afternoon goes right over the top leaving a major glare on the water.:

- Arethusa falls (this is the one that is hard to get to)
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=34&p=0
-Bemis Brook Falls (very easy hike)
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=44&p=0
- Colliseum Falls (very easy hike)
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=79&p=1

2) Crystal Cascades, Which is an easy 3 mile hike, (I did it and couldnt believe it was that far, only felt like I walked a mile or so. It is worth every second on the trail to see also)

//www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=87&p=0

3) There is also Bridal Veil Falls, which is another moderately difficult hike to, I do not know how far this one is as I havent done it yet.
* //www.northeastwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?num=284&p=0

Let me know if the origonal list sounds good, or you would perfer to do some of the others I have listed as other options, and I will modify our layout and repost for the group. Also let me know if the time table for meeting sounds ok with everyone as well.

I had a blast! I was only able to stay until 1, and for everyone that I didn't see down in the parking lot before I left, let me just say that it was a pleasure to meet you all, and I had a wonderful time! It was another really cool crowd of DPCers :-)

I'm at work now, but I aim to have some photos edited tonight to post up.

Sorry I didn't see more of you guys! But we had to set our own pace or else Hubby ends up in the bottom of ravines. :) LOL We did make it to the top and back though.

Nathan, thanks to you and your wife again for the help getting the kids across the river! The extra hand was very much appreciated. :)

I was just glad that everyone could make it, it was really good meeting everyone and finally being able to put some faces to names. I hope the kids and the Hubby had a good time and I hope the hubbys leg is feeling better.

We all had a blast. The kids were soaked, tired and happy by the time we got back. Chris (hubby) is very used to the bumps and strains of that kind of hike, so no worries. He refuses to let anything slow him down, so we just stopped and soaked his ankles in the freezing cold water every so often to keep him going. He'll hike by my side every time right up until the day he can't stand anymore. He did say you and him needed to talk about definitions of 'easy hike' though. We had a great time, and it was absolutely worth the trip. LOL :)

It was good to finally meet everyone, no matter how briefly.
Thanks again for putting this together! Next summer, we should definitely do it again. :)

Finally, a chance to work through my shots tonight! Here are the best from the GTG, hope you all enjoy!

I think I got some good ones, and as I said before, I had a great time meeting you all! Hopefully we're able to do this again before too long, and I know for sure that I'll be returning to the Park for some more shooting when I'm able - the place is amazing!

On the other hand, this is yet another GTG where I didn't manage to get a single shot of any DPCers. Gonna have to work on that.

Did anyone make it up to Artists Bluff? I'm really disappointed that I wasn't able to be there for that part. I'd love to see some pics from there!

No actually no one made it past the flume, Eric and I continued there and at the end of that hike kind of figured we would save the bluff and the basin for another day.

I hope to make it to the bluff sometime soon as that was one of my main goals that just didnt work out on this trip.

Great Shots BTW, look really good. I havent really had the chance to process mine. Hopefully I can put a couple more up soon from the GTG.

Oh well.

Well, made it back from vacation in one piece. Was worried about that some a couple of times on Sunday! :) What a beautiful hike and outing. Thanks for putting it together Rich. It was a pleasure meeting everyone.

The trail seemed a bit longer than it really was I think on the way up. :P Certainly had to watch your step with the damp exposed tree roots and the wet rocks!

Then there were the water crossings...a bit dicey with camera gear in hand or strapped across your back.

I did manage to get a few people shots. Not as many as I should have probably. With the ND and Polarizing filters it required a lens change or unsuspecting target to get anything candid. :D

At least the waterfalls played nicely for some decent shots. We all cheered when the clouds rolled in sporadically (the direct sun coming thru the leaves made exposures a little challenging at times).

Here's a handful of scenics, more in this folder => NH GTG July 2007.

Near the end of the trail on the way out, I played around with my Olympus waterproof P&S camera...in case you guys were curious how they came out I processed a couple. The highlights were quite blown so I converted to B/W.

,

Definitely need to do this again next year! :D

It certainly was nice to put a face to the name. We'll have to get together next year.

You had your hands full with the kids...much braver than I am, can't imagine trying to get any photos with our group of youngsters around! BTW - Did you see the couple hiking the trail and the dad had a backpack with the kid in it? Talk about being in shape!!! Yikes!

Did Jonathon get any shots in with your camera? C'mon you guys...post 'em up. :P
