Would be nice! It's less costly then going to the Munster Workshop/GTG. Might be a bit far, but "Never say Never", so I'll say maybe. I drove down to Annapolis, MD from 5pm-12AM nonstop, with our Boy Scout troop, about 5 years ago.
I was just in Hocking Hills, Ohio, and the waterfalls didn't look anything like the postcard pictures on the internet. Unfortunately it was just a trickle. I did see your "Falling Waters Cascade" picture taken in May of 2007, and you are closer to the ocean.
See the great "waterfall" shots, er-I mean we pretended to fall into the water, on our backs. Recent Southern Ohio GTG - 2007
Anyone near NH (USA, Canada, Europe), go for it!
It can be a lots of fun.

OdysseyF22 I'll bring stuff if that's what everyone wants; otherwise a bag lunch is easy for me.
glad2badad Bag lunch for me as this will be most likely a 1/2 day event for me (other family plans later).
NathanW I still have to make sure I'm off that day (it shouldn't be too big of a problem though). As for food, I say we just bring a bag lunch. |
tjbel05 I'm pretty sure I can be there for this, so Im putting my name down. I also think a bag lunch works. |
notesinstones I'll be there with family if I can still book a campsite. Food can be either way with us, we are flexible.
|
I'm thinking about making the trek up for this. My husband and I have been planning little camping excursions with the kids all summer long and this would fit in nicely.
I'm going to look into campsites near the Franconia area and see if there are any left.

Wow! I just found this thread. I'm in. Bag lunch is fine, but either way is good for me.

Well, this appears to be the group we have going (as of now).
hot_pixel.....Richard
OdysseyF22....Brent
glad2badad....Barry
NathanW.......Nathan & wife, Christy (but she doesn't have a camera)
printer4u.....Rick
tjbel05.......Tammy
notesinstones....Jennifer
I haven't done anything with the pics I took last week at the Flume, but if I do get around to them I'll post some. It's not very easy to take good photo's when you're trying to keep track of a bunch of 2nd graders. *grin*

OK this is shaping up to be really fun, I talked to Eric, k1eea and he wants to come also. Is everyone game for the schedule, or should we be doing another round of shceduling for the group to choose from, I know there was some thoughts of doing crystal cascade.

I don't have a problem with the locations.
As for the timeline...I don't see a point in giving set times, when we may find something that sticks our fancy, and other places may not.
I say we just stay loose and do what comes. |

Yea,
Timeline was only to give people who may have come earlier or later an idea of about where we would be so they could find us. Everything is pretty close to one another. Thats all the time line was for.

Count me in as interested--I have to look into the details, and maybe see if I can find someone to drive with (that way we can drive back that night. 4.5 hours after all that hiking and shooting is a long drive.

Less than 10 days away, this is just an excited shameless bump to try and catch anyone else that may be interested or some of the new members who may not have seen it.

Still looking into it. Any suggestions for hotels 1 hour or so away for the way there (hopefully along this route) |

Bradford NH is about an hour away on that route. I do not have any recommendations for this area, but I looked it up on Google maps and there were quite a few in that area.

Hi. Looking at the Franconia Notch State Park map and it appears there are only two exits (34A & 34B) off of I-93. We'll be coming up from Moultonborough. How do I get to the Falling Waters Falls Trail parking area coming north on I-93? Thanks. :) |

Thats correct there is a trail head parking area that is for the falling waters trail on the northbound side after 34A, You need to be really careful because the signage for the trail is very close to the pullout and I have actually missed it once or twice. I will try to provide more information on this before the 22nd .

An Am bump to suck more people who may be interested into the GTG. Its only about a week away. I think from all the people who responded below that everyone should pack their own lunch.

Hitting the road in 2 days and I'm not sure I'll have internet access at that point, so...
...do I get off on exit 34A? Then what? Or, is there a pulloff to the Falling Waters Falls Trail parking area off of I-93 directly?
Thanks! Looking forward to meeting everyone. BTW - What's the weather forecast for Sunday morning in that area?
edit - typo

No there is a trail head directly off of 93N do not get off 34-A is will be after this and the falling waters trail is marked as the pullout, but is very quick after the sign that the pullout is so be aware.
Weather as of right now:
Jul 22 Sunday
Partly cloudy, chance of a thunderstorm. Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the mid 50s.
I will be parked on the left side of the parking area, and I am going to make a poster that says DPC and stick it my back window once I park so people can find me.
See you soon. Be safe driving.
