You guys started it. :-) I saw it coming as soon as your complaints about the rules started straying from soft focus specifically into the general limitations of the rules. Just took it a few more posts to get a steam built up behind it than I expected. Oh well, here we go.... |

My original point was not to resurrect the wide-open PS challenge vs. the current rules debate. That dead horse has been flogged endlessly in other threads.
My point was (and still is) that it is possible to achieve soft focus effects without PS and that while PS may make it easier in some ways, maybe it's not such a bad thing for us to occasionally step out of our digital comfort zone and create a visual effect without the aid of PS. Committing to an effect BEFORE pushing the shutter requires that the photographer's plan to achieve their visual goal be more complete prior to exposure.
I don't want to become too dependent on any one tool in my toolbox. I'd rather have a full tool set and have different ways to get what I'm after.

Yes, but what will people think of me if I have pantyhose and a jar of vasoline in my toolbox. |

Who knows? Maybe they will want to take a look at the rest of your tools...

Spazmo,
Now that's funny too. |

I'll say one thing for this challenge, it's made me work at a technique I wouldn't otherwise have bothered with. And hopefully won't have to again in future :-)
