being as i used to be a graphic designer (not a photagrapher), i would purchase photos from websites like www.gettyone.com to use in my graphic design.
a stock photo is one that is sold for commercial use.

Speaking for myself, I registered for this website to learn about photography and possibly improve my own work. So what about stock photos or field photography. They are both valid uses of photography and neither could exist without the other. I really think this website should be about talent development and to criticize a photo as on catagory or the other is to stifle that developemnt.
Now if you want a challenge for "real" photography, let's go back to the very basics. How about everyone build themselves a pinhole camera(we should all know the concepts involved) and make the best image we can. Scan your image and post it without any adjustment or correction. An additional competition could be held to see who could improve their own work in a photo editing program.  |
