so i open my camera bag, pop my 70-200 on the camera, take the lens cap off .. . . and have a gigantic heart attack. my mouth goes dry. my left arm tingles.
my UV filter is shattered. absolutely smashed.
and i have no idea how it happened. i haven't used the lens in more than a week and i've not been careless with my bag.
after carefully removing the filter and VERRRRRy carefully dusting off the lens. . .i still hear a heartbreaking crunch when i twist the barrel.
oh sh*t.
hey, guys, tell me it's going to be okay.

At this point, I'd be blaming the kids. they break everything they lay their sticky little fingers on.

You don't even have that lens in your profile. |

It's the cats. They do things and then look so inocent while the kids, the dog, the spouse, all get blamed. If you have a cat, I'd be checking there first. You can't trust those little fur balls.
;)
Hopefully everything else is ok.
Sincerly, the Dog.

In fact, if my kids pick something up and are unable to break it through normal goofiness, they will actually work it over until they manage to break it. They are demons!

| I have cats.... I consequently store all the camera bags on the floor in corners. My "no drop" policy! |

The kids fool you too. they are so cute and they look at you with that nice cute look. they pick up that expensive item and smile so cutely then look you right in the eye and throw it. |

| Yes, pack the kids in the trunk, strap the lens into the car seat and slowly drive to the repair shop. |

| You've gotta love that 'sinking feeling' though. The same feeling you get when you drive your car into the back of someone at the traffic lights. Or when you accidently delete the dissertation you've spent 3 months working on. |

You didn't read the Nikon disclaimer: "This lens will self-destruct in 7 days."
Seriously though, that sucks! Hope you get it fixed soon and don't have any more occurences. |

Welcome to my Christmas morning nightmare!! Exact same thing...with one major exception...mine did have kids involved!! I watched my camera go crashing to the floor and the UV filter broke inwards towards my lens!! On top of it, I had to worry that my camera survived!! Yes...dry mouth, left arm tingling...I remember it like it was yesterday!
My lens was shot...the zoom was no longer working and there was a huge scratch on the lens! All very bad. After my hysterics...I was online purchasing a later X-mas gift to me...within an hour!!
P.S. My son has since come out of protective custody and is no longer wearing the disguise. He will see his 3rd birthday!!
