i have the 100mm canon macro. and i have some expousure issues. do i have to compensate steps when im shooting macro with strobes? the light meter shows 16 so i set on 8 or something? or im just crazy

No, your ettl should compensate and you should get correct exposure. Use manual exposure mode and set both shutter speed and aperture. If you're using the on-board flash, that may be a problem. It's so low that the lens may be shadowing it when you focus up close.
