Is it the same as resizing it on the computer? I have a few photos taken on the wrong setting and would like to know before I go and reshoot if I can make them larger without losing any quality.

You can enlarge what you have, but the result will not be sharp, since you can't create detail that's not there. Think of it as spreading the information from one pixel across several.
If you need a sharp, detailed enlargement, you will need to reshoot.
