I seen a guy walking around with two of those Gorilla Pods he had one camera around his neck and shoulders and the other attached to his arm not sure I would carry my camera that way, But it seemed to be working for him.
I will be interested in having a closer look at one.. So definately bring yours if it isn't any trouble.

I'm pretty sure it's 30-40mins, maybe more depending on traffic.

I talked to someone lastnight that said during low traffic periods you can make it from Mukwonago to Milwaukee in about 15-20 minutes. However to the lakefront downtown would obviously take a little longer. I doubt the traffic would be bad at the early hours that we will all be heading down there.

The art museum at night also makes for some great shots if anyone would be interested in that. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

That would be a good place to get a shot for current night challenge. I just might have to go for a ride tonight.
How are we all doing as far as the date goes? Everyone still able to make it? 6 weeks away.

I'm still in. And yeah, it's a great place for night shots. Unfortunately I'm heading back to MN tonight otherwise I would probably have been over there tonight too. :)

Lets hope This Guy isn't there on the 12th of May. If he doesn't like paintings he probably hates photographs too. Perhaps I will bring my monopod along as a weapon. haha.

9-12 inches of snow predicted for this area today. Glad the GTG isn't for another month. This weather is yuk!

According to the weather channel, the average temp for Milwaukee on the 12th is 65. Lets hope that it actually is around that temp (preferably above it)...

Well the 9-12 turned out to be about 2-3 for us which is melting away slowly. I was looking forward to photographing our Tulips in the front yard however they are not going to make it this year. The last week of weather wiped them out. I am so sick of winter. Hopefully this was old man winters last breath. Time for the Real Spring to show face...

We should probably start making some plans, meeting times/places etc.
I went out to the Horicon Marsh lastnight I was there til around 6:45 would have stayed longer but time was not on my side. The sunset was very awesome on the way home so I can only imagine it would have been stunning at the marsh. Anyway, It gave me a thought for another place close to the Milwaukee Area especially close to Holy Hill if we end up in that direction. The Sunset over the marsh and water with birds flying about would make for some nice pictures.

Yeah people, PLANS! All I know is I'm driving over there for breakfast and I want fun people to keep me entertained all day. (oh yeah, and let's take a few pics) |

where is breakfast going to be? In the downtown area or out in one of the burbs... I would suggest the burbs because finding parking in the downtown area can be tidius at times.

I'm relying on the Milwaukee people to make the call. As long as they have decent coffee and a good menu, I won't complain. I'm assuming the day will look something like this:
1. Initial rendezvous, park cars, carpool to #2
2. Site to shoot at sunrise
3. Breakfast
4. Zoo
5. Lunch?
6. Misc shooting at various other locations
Fill in the blanks Rocko, Fritz, etc!! |

I'll come up with a recommendation for breakfast... I too think that downtown would be potentially problematic.
I checked out the parking situation near the Zoo; there is a small area just west of the entrance on the EB side of Blue Mound where parking is permitted. The catch is, no parking between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. No weekend parking during the day on any of the side streets near the Zoo. |

There are plenty of choices along bluemound on the way to the zoo, many chains like Perkins, Country Kitchen etc... most of them usually have decent menus for breakfast. I am kind of keen on the Holy Hill area, although I have been there many times never with a fisheye lens. However I am game to go with the masses. I was thinking about a sunset at the horicon marsh. But that I can do anytime as horicon is fairly close to watertown, about 25-30 minutes. other than what has already been discussed here I really do not have any other ideas right now.

I don't know the distances involved, but we could probably meet at the eventual breakfast location, park some cars, and then carpool to a sunrise location. What are people thinking for sunrise?
I also like the idea of shooting at Holy Hill, but I'm not sure I'm going to make it until sunset that night. Starting at 4 in the morning, that could be a long day, but I'll be willing to try almost anything. |

from the zoo to the art museum shouldnt take more than 20-25 minutes at that hour on a Saturday. going back might add a few minutes because more people will be out and about. from brookfield to the holy hill area is probably 35-40 minutes. I can take a few in my van 6 riders to be exact. however once we leave the milwaukee area it would probably be best that I have no passangers because I will most likely not go back in that direction once we go elsewhere.

I'd vote for something simple and fast for breakfast so we can keep shooting as much as possible.

i am not a big breakfast eater. If I have anything it is usually a doughnut or jelly roll. maybe a glass of OJ but my normal breakfast is pepsi. i will probably want to eat something though especially if I am up moving around for a couple of hours then smell bacon and sausage cooking. ....

Ok...anywhere for breakfast is fine with me. I'm going to have to keep my vehicle...simply since, at some point I am going to have to sneak off and visit my 95yr old grandmother...she lives not far from the zoo.
I'm all for Horizon Marsh...was past there last year and didn't have my camera! You know...one of those Wild Kingdom moments when you are unprepared!
I'm not sure if I'll make the sunrise shoot...I'm an 1.5hrs away (Unless I come down on Friday and spend the night at my grandmother's...which would tickle her to no end. I'll ponder that some).
