Is there anything more that I need besides:

I want my site to show up on google/yahoo/etc, so is there anything else that I need to add for that to happen? |

Unless you have lots of people linking you already, you need to submit your site.

A Google Sitemap helps drastically to get your individual pages indexed.

this is the small piece of text that comes up in the google pages, if you don't have text on your index. |

What most fail to realize is that unless your keywords are backed up with actual content, they can actually hurt your Google ranking. Keywording your site is mostly useless now. All major search engines have turned away from keywording and toward content for ranking.
Content and links to your page are the best ways to get better ratings. Getting links from high ranking pages gets you up the list the fastest.

| If your titles & headings etc are pictures or words, not text, google will not read them. Even if you submit it to google it may still take a few months. When I did mine the best thing I ever did was in smaller text at the very top of the page I described my site, not that̢۪s the bit that shows up in the description under the link in google. But it still took time, lots of it. |

Exactly. To build content I would suggest writing photography tutorials and such and then seeking out other sites that may want to link to that content. Also, if you are using flash I'd convert to html.

| Mine never did get in there, and I had it up for a year. Decided after that that it wasn't worth renewing. |

I've never had to do much to get my site on Google. I do use the sitemap tools, and once upon a time many years ago I submitted one of my sites. Since then I've just relied on what little content I have up.
Oddly, there are several keywords that I rank pretty highly for. |

Well, it's not going to be a major site, and it's not intended to be the most popular site in the world, but I wanted it to show up on Yahoo and Google so that way other people could find us if need be.

I actually do have the Description Meta name, I just didn't copy and paste it. |

I built my current site less than a year ago. I put a link in my DPC signature (see it down there), and I get a lot of clicks from here. The site hit google within weeks. DPC is a statistically LARGE referral site. :)

We just recently started building the site. The only thing that it comes up high for are if you type lopre, or the full url address. craigslist is actually first for lopre.com
