Lesley, have you contacted the theif, and if so what was the response (not that I would expect him/her to respond reasonably)

Looks like the whole site was taken down!

And another criminal slips away into the night.

I'm wondering if our direct confrontation approach is the best idea.
We immediately challenge the individual, they fold up the site only to open it elsewhere.

Personally, I would rather view these incidents as episodes of that popular American TV show "Law & Order", in which the perp is arrested and convicted of thier felonious misdeeds.

I doubt he slipped away into the night on this. The more likely scenario is that his web host yanked the site out from under him.

Well his domain is active and there are intact directories. All the files are gone.

When my host shuts down a site say for non payment you cant access anything. It really at this moment in time looks like he deleted the files. Could be wrong but a host doesnt yank control and just hit the delte button. THey usually lock the account and either redirect the domain, advertise on the domain, goto a 403 forbidden (also default if the index has been removed) or just plain say its been locked/shutdown.

The little creep got caught and he knew it. I wonder if the Internet Archive has a recent enough copy of his site to still use against him. If theres any part of the site cached somewhere then the complaint against him could still be validated. To what extent anythign else will be done is the question.
