Just for fun I recalculated my results for the Red II challenge without any of the votes under 5. This took my average from 6.1902 up to 6.4919. If that had been my result it would have taken me from 36th to about 17th.

So while thats a fair number of places higher it still isn't in the ribbon range. My conclusion? It isn't the trolls that will kill your score. It the fact you have to wow a lot of people to ribbon here.

Just something to chew on...

True. You can't do anything about those that vote extremely low. The ones who vote normally tend to have a wider appreciation of things and therefore will award you points on wow factor whether it is carried by the chosen subject or technique or a combination of the two. This is why you see a lot of people do magic tricks in their setups many of which really have no photographic merit to it beyond just the fact that a camera was used to photograph/display it.
