Damn!!!!
I've been voting this challenge and WAS feeling really good about my entry.
I've run across four in the past hour of voting that just blow mine into the weeds.
Dialup sucks.....you guys freakin' ROCK!!!
I had been getting almost queasy from looking at some of them, but the good ones are REALLY good!
Ah, well......8>)

There are some OUTSTANDING entries to my eye in this challenge. Even if my 6.9 holds, I don't imagine I'll ribbon, given the competition on this one... |

Go Jeb and Noraneko!
I'm rooting for ya, but I'm sitting on a big, fat 5.0.
No comments, so maybe I'll get one of Melethia's special suckers. ;)

The last dozen or so of voters have taken me down a chunk. Went from a 6.69 to this...

Mines been up and down all week, hanging in at 5.9. I'd so like to see it go over the 6.00 though as that would be a first.
I had a couple of comments that troubled me. It's amazing how many assumptions people make. "You did too much this or that" "would have been better if you didn't do that" 2 of the comments I have currently are so far off as the only post processing I did was to do a b/w conversion and crop (heavily). No added noise, no added film grain - thus the comments are nonense really. Ho hum. Shouldn't let it bother me, but I expect the two commenters voted it down and I was over 6 before them, so it's only human nature to be put out by them.

Catherine
Nice score. You are just ahead of me. I am sneaking up on the elusive 7 mark and a PB, but doubt I will get there unless some low votes don't end up getting counted (people voting less than 20%).

That makes you rare, if not unique. Don't misunderstand me; honest, forthright critiques of photos are a good thing, even when lacking tact or care of others' feelings. You'll see plenty of stark comments in my portfolio that I've checked as helpful. They're helpful because they told me something about my photo.
In contrast, "nasty" comments, especially those about the photographer, are insulting, degrading, and serve only to anger people as opposed to helping them improve.
"This composition leaves me cold" is fine, as is "lighting is harsh ... composition is un-interesting." Those both tell me something about how my photo affected someone. Even just "DNMC" tells me I didn't convey the connection to the challenge to that person.
"You suck" is not appropriate. "Should stick to nitting" shows not only a lack of compassion, but also the lack of ability to comment on what's being put forward for comment: the photo, not the photographer.

voters have to comment using assumptions. If you don't want people to do so put "do not comment" in your title, otherwise try to be thankful that someone spent THEIR time to try to help you. even if they were wrong you shouldn't be mad at them for trying.
BTW good luck on getting your first 6!
