I'm doing okay - bounce up and down by a .1 with every vote. But just wanted to say something about the etiquette of comments. My comments have been great so far. My Best Beloved is doing really badly - it's a great Art shot and would do well as part of a series, but it's being hammered. His latest comment received was this crushing one
"Were you aiming at a 1.000 average?".
My soul just cries for him and for anyone else who receives such a comment. I know how much angst went into his shot and the Post Processing. I know what high hopes he had for it and I can see its worth outside of the challenge. It's a good shot - IMO it has faults and isn't my style - but it's classy and has its own strength AND meets the challenge.
BUT a comment like that must hurt way down deep. It's not helpful. It doesn't even indicate what, in that voter's opinion, is so weak about it. It's a smug, stupid, pubescent comment. Just horrible. Anyway, rant over. But I'm sore for him and for others who get bashed this way.

An interesting scoring pattern has developed on mine which would indicate the image is somewhat polarizing. It opened the voting with five '4' votes in a row [:(] then saw several 7s and 8s.
In fact, over the 90 votes received thus far I'll see a 7 or 8 score followed by several 4s; there are very few 5 or 6 votes ... it's either above or below. Unfortunately, there are way more "belows" than "aboves" and my score sits firmly entrenched around the mid-5 mark as a result. :-/

5flowers
lets throw them out of the competion to make things more sharp

You CANNOT let some comments get to you or you'll self-destruct.
A comment like that isn't about anything but the commenter's pain, bitterness, and misery in their own life that for whatever reason cannot be appeased by anything other than lashing out at any- and everybody.
When you put yourself into the time and effort of a challenge entry, you have to remember that although you're seeking input in return, you're not offering yourself up to be abused verbally and mentally.
Do not view these things as any reflection on you, please.
And do not think for one minute that I defend or condone this kind of behavior, I've spent a lot of time trying to understand it and realize that people such as these need to have their pain understood even if they don't know it.
And it takes strong, caring people to be able to do that.
Some days I'm up to the cahallenge, others, well...... |

Weird day, I dropped below 6.0, but jumped back up to 6.11. It's hard to get anything going I'll literally have votes come in like 3 and then 10.

I think it will be fine, but it's like being pulled over even when you know ... well, you're pretty sure ... well, you can't be 100% sure of anything, really ... that you didn't do anything to deserve a ticket. Hope this is decided quickly. Surely no one on SC has anything better to do than validate my entry, right ;-) Score is still over 6 and I'd very much like to keep it!! |

I can definately relate to that. I once recieved a comment "4". That was it. Okay you gave me a 4. What is wrong with the photo to deserve such a score. I want to know. I want to learn. Yes it did hurt. But, I believe the person was just bitter or better yet, Jealous. Well, I don't know what was wrong with the photo but I did learn something. I will never leave such a comment. I will tell the person what I like about their photo and then tell them where I think they can improve. If I can't think of anything good to say then I won't leave a comment at all. Tell your Best Beloved to Hang in there and keep being creative. In the end all that really matters is that you like your shot.

That's what happen to me on my first time. I knew I was okay with the picture so I didn't really worry about it but I did have it in my mind. Then I got my second request 2 days after the first for a different challenge, again I was okay but AGAIN, couple days after that I got yet another "trees challenge" and swore I was okay. Turns out I wasn't allowed to crop anything but I read it as we could crop once. Go figure. Oh well won't get another one is all I can say.

Ya know, my first inclination was to just let you have it for your ignorance and insensitivity, but why stoop to your level of behavior?
If you can honestly say that your comment was "just a comment", I really do have empathy for the sad little life you lead.
As to your comparing me with Freud, hey, I'll take it as a compliment to be compared with a pioneer in the world of thought and human behavior, even if he was a little skewed IMHO.
But we know that you really meant that as just another small-minded, mean crack, didn't you?
