I was just going to something similar as I had a quick question about taking a flight. Can you take a tripod as part of your carry-on?

Jeff, when I have travelled before I fit everything into a camera bag or backpack and carried it with me and had no trouble, but last time I put my tripod in my checked luggage.

Flying?

Carryon all that fits. Don't check any camera gear except your tripod. If your tripod fits in your carryon then that's even better.

Is it allowed to take a tripod? it seems like something that may not be allowed for security reasons maybe. Thanks :)

Ya flying, wouldn't think that a tripod would be good to carry on. I have a nice Tenba backpack, I am worried it may be too big. Also was wondering about all the little things like battery chargers (cords) and filters (glass) and my 12 inch machete I use in the jungle.....

Any thoughts?
Thanks

You can definitely carry on a tripod. Just strap it to the outside of your backpack and make sure to take it off when you put your bag through the security xray. I never check luggage when I travel, it's more convenient and I don't have to worry about anything getting lost. I take my tripod with me almost every time I fly.
