| It'd be nice to have when composing infrared, that's for sure. |

Didn't I see this a year or two ago? I thought it was already available.

| For basic composition it would be OK, but you'd never want to try to judge focus on it. I couldn't see spending the money for it. |

I'd trust my camera's AF, as I usually do. I won't get one, since I wouldn't use it much, but it will be great for paparazi and photojournalists. Pervs too I suppose :D

| Focus screens are made for most popular DSLRs that feature a split image screen and a focusing collar as well. These greatly enhance your ability to achieve a clean focus, but have drawbacks, like not being able to see other viewfinder indicators. They are pricy if purchased from someone like Katz-Eye but Hong Kong suppliers sell them for about $30. |

DPReview posted a press release back in June 2005 which announced the original version was for sale. This one is a new version of that product. So, yes, it was already available. |

IMO, not really. For astro work, focus is incredibly critical, and so even the optical viewfinder may not be adequate (even with a magnifier!). An add-on EVF will be woefully inadequate, even for shorter focal lengths. Software like DSLR Focus is often used to optimize focus for long-focal-length astro work. |
