So today I finally got hold of my long awaited 70-200mm lens and couldn't decide what to take a photograph of first..... but after much debating, here it is!

I've taken a few more :o) While most of the comments i've read over the last 6 months about this lens have been really good, i've also read a couple of times that during testing the quality can vary slightly between each
lens even when they are the same model. How would I know if there was anything wrong with the lens or if it was not as good as it is meant to be? It worries me a little that I would not pick something up that I would do if i was more experienced and by that time it would be too late to change it?

The issues are normally focussing issues.
Do a series of shots at different apertures (Larger will show this up better though).
Lay a 30cm ruler on the table, running away from the camera. Put the camera on a tripod. Focus on a point midway down the ruler (Say the 15cm mark). When you view the image on your computer, is the focus point (15cm mark) the most crisp part of your image? |

thanks pix - I will try that out tonight and see how I go
Do I need to take a shot at 15cm throughout the entire aperture range? |
