does it work?

I know they are the same battery BP-511, but the original batteries that come with the camera are different amps. Are they still interchangeable with each other?

as long as the voltage is the same, you're good to go.

The BP-511a battery that is standard with the 5D is just an upgraded, higher capacity version of the BP-511. They are interchangeable both ways; I've used both combinations.

It's not amps... the difference is the milliamp-hour (mAh) rating of the battery which is a way to calculate how long it will last at a given current draw. The voltage is the only thing that actually makes a difference to a battery's compatibility
