Anyone care to take a wander down to the Tokina booth and give those guys a shakedown and ask them what the heck is going on with the 16-50 f/2.8? I think that if there is no announcement in the next few days, I am seriously going to just go and get a Tamron.

Sadly, I'll probably be the last person who's actually held out for one since it was announced in February 2006.

The Pentax version wont be out til may, if that helps at all...

But then, the Tokina version of the 50-135 is already available, so I have no idea why the 16-50 is taking so long.

I did not realize the convention is already in progress.

Vegas is cool and has TONS of photo opportunities. I'm not there but it would be great for DPCers to hook up at the convention and go on a photo safari or two. That would be fun!

Yeah, I first started seeing info and rumors on this back in December of 2005. What the heck? 1 year and 4 months later and it's still under glass?

Forget all the pissed off customers who have been waiting while being drawn along by regular 'announcements' which last appeared quite some months ago... During this time, Sigma has updated their 18-50 f/2.8 and Tamron announced, released and placed their 17-50 f/2.8 on the shelves, where it has been there long enough to get dusty and Pentax has designed and finished their lens...

How long does it seriously take Tokina? What's the deal with not even having a proper website in 2007? This is just an embarrassment.

Here is a DPC thread on a sizable announcement yesterday at PMA 2007:

Yeah, I noticed that Phil Askey seems to have skipped the Tokina booth. I checked and they do appear to have a booth at the show. Nobody seems to be checking it out though. Probably because they got their heads in their a$$e$.

Dang.

Oh and les. Thanks for the update about a microsoft file format release. It really helps answer my questions about Tokina's lens mystery.

I will repeat. Anybody actually at the show feel like asking about something related to lenses instead of just updating all the different companies that have released new types of CF cards and Card readers with virtually the same specs as all their competitors?

EDIT: FWIW, The 16-50 f/2.8 by Tokina appears to actually have been 'released at the show. It should be available by summer of 2199...

That's just enough information to prevent me from going out and buying a Tamron... grrr.
