And I want serious and honest answers. Take a look at my portfolio..... then tell me, is it lack of photo skills, or lack of photoshop skills, or both. Maybe I just don't have the eye for photography. I don't care for anything i've done.
Another note, any one interested, there is another off road race on the 17th. I am trying for one of the Checkpoints near a drop (big jump) see if I can get some good shots. Practice.... Anyway, anyone near the high desert and wants to have some photo fun, let me know I have the gps of the track. |

Why don't you care for anything you've done? Is it because you find the images boring? I didn't look through your whole portfolio but I did sort your challenge entries from best to worst and scanned through the first dozen. There is a huge difference between your one 6+ scoring shot and the rest and, to me at least, that difference should be very obvious to you. That 6 image is well taken, wekk composed, and offers an interesting subject to the viewer. The rest are a collection of bug shots (grr) and snapshots. Bug shots have their fans, snapshots are for showing the family.
Based on that 6 shot, you have both the skills and the eye. Get out of your back yard and shoot the things that intrigue you. They will likely be intriguing to others as well. |

Well I do certainly do not consider myself an expert (or even close to one) but I have taken a look and will tell you what I think.
You have a lot of pictures I feel are wonderful (mostly challenge entries but there are others), for example
I love the feels of this. The tones and lighting just add so much to it, it's pleasing to look at and you don't expect that from the back of a flower. There seems to be some noise in it but I like it, I think it's just enough to add to the overall image.
I like how you didn't shoot this straight on. You added an angle to help the views eyes move about the image but they also don't get distracted or lost. The railing help you move from lower left to upper right nicely. It's got simple colors that help keep it pleasant.
I like the different versions of this image. The DOF is very nice, making the viewer look right where you want them to. The angle and framing add to the overall effect of the image.
Those being said, you also have many that are just kind of boring (but I think some were taken just more for personal resons anyway-kids) and don't offer a whole lot to get excited about...
I think more negative space to the top may help this but also it has some blur in it that is distracting, it is better than the originals but the tilt of the train bothers me...(yeah like you could have controled that) The centering of the image just bores me.
You have so many that have real class that it makes me wonder why you are asking for help. I think you have entered really good stuff in the challenges but it just happened that someone entered better stuff...the breaks.
Hope this helps some...I think you have a great eye and appear to be very talented photoshoper, I hope you aren't thinking of giving up it would be the worst thing you could do.
