This isn't a trial balloon or anything, I'm just curious what the response would be if Rikki returned after his year suspension.
Is it forgive and forget? Has permanent damage been done so that his suspension was effectively permanent? Have enough new people joined to dilute the collective hurt inflicted? or would the old guard hound him wherever he went, turning him into another constant flashpoint like Rose?
What would happen if he came back under a different name? Would that give him a fresh start or would it just look like he was trying something sneaky?
I know that whole mess was a black mark in DPC's history, but I also know that Rikki provided some great photography and was (until the fateful event) a respected, liked, and valuable member of the forum society.
I'm just looking for discussion and opinions here. I don't even know when his year would be up.

I would say, "Welcome back, Rikki!"
Edit: He's still in my Favourites list.

I know from previous threads that you would welcome him back with open arms. I would not.

Fine with me if he comes back. He's still on my favorites list also. I'd prefer to see him under the same name. I'm a great believer in bygones.

me too.
I'm a very forgiving person. I think he learned his lesson, and it would be nice to have him back here.
Doc, you still have contact with him? |

I wasn't here long before he was suspended but long enough to feel a little let down by his behavior. I would never mention his name as a joke in reguards to what he did(and I never have), BUT I would always silently wonder if he had a photo that did well if it was 100% legit or not. I DO think it would look shady if he came back under a different name. But that said LOTS of DPCers change thier names and I always think it's confusing and nearly pointless.

But what would this look like Karen? I'm certainly not asking people to forgive if they don't want to. Personally, I'd like to see him back, BUT I would not like to see him back if it was always flame this and flame that (ala rose/espy/whoever else she way). So do you think you'd more ignore his presence or would you react to it?

I have never flamed anyone in these forums, in fact I keep my mouth shut a lot when I am so tempted to speak my mind. So I guess I would just ignore him.

I would look forward to seeing his images again, and to possibly interact a bit with him again - I thought he was a cool guy.
However, I know that if I have to be honest, I'd have a bit of a hands-off attitude towards him at least at first - it's hard to forget what happened, and at least for a while it would be hard for me to not be a bit suspicious that maybe it could happen again.
On the other hand, people learn, people grow. I would like to see him back. I would like to forget what happened and go on.
[and I'm going to get killed for saying this - oh well :) ]

I don't think communities like this dwell in the past too long, I'm sure it'd be mostly unnoticed. Perhaps a small handful of voters that would give him a 1 if they recognized his submission ... maybe tip-toe the TOS rules in the forums with some harsh words.
It'd be fine by me ... my images suck with or without him in the mix :)
Regarding an alternate username/profile - I'd understand if he did that, but it wouldn't help his image much if people figured it out. |

I would definitely welcome Rikki back. If this site was about winning prizes or money for contests, then I might have more reservations. I feel like this site however is more about fun and learning, and I've got to admit that Rikki was one of the most helpful, involved, and enthusiastic members of this site in the 2+ years that I have been here.
Sure, he was caught cheating in that his friends were seeing his images before contests and then voting for him. That was obviously a problem and a mistake on his part, but in the long run, this is all for fun right? |

I would like to see him back under a new name as well, with a different name but same photo technique he would be figured out soon enough anyways.
I for one would like to see him back, but would be worried about the same thing over again.
Just my 2 cents worth.

If he follows the rules like everyone is supposed to, and is above board and fair, fine, come back.
But, integrity is a funny thing. Once you do something to tarnish your reputation, it is hard for people to trust you again. Any appearance, no matter how small, of an infraction, and a lot of people will probably have a difficult time trusting that it was an honest mistake.
I suspect most "opponents" would be like KareNfld -- they would simply ignore him. And that is fair.
I honestly don't know if i care or not
(edit because i hit post in the middle of a word, duh)

If he returned after his suspension, he's paid his price. He's a nice person who made a big mistake and has paid for it. He's welcome back as far as the site admins are concerned and I wouldn't treat him any differently. |

I have never chimed in in any thread regarding the incident.
He has served his penance and I believe it would show allot of testicular fortitude if he came back under the same name.
He is a hell of an artist and I would love to see him and his work around here again. I to still have him in my faves. |

This is the point for me, I can't say I'm the most forgiving person in the world, but at the same time you can't hang on the past. I think the first time he had a top 10 finish there would be a number of people that would question the results and if I were in his shoes that cloud of doubt would be hard to live under. If he were to come back I think he should have to use his current user name along with the record it shows.

He won by large margins, large enough to not make a difference. D&L said so themselves, if memory serves.
I've told my wife about these goings-on (eventually), and as a result, when & if she votes on my entries she votes me down because I told her I don't want a witch-hunt to happen against me.
Pfft. :-/

I think that he has been punished enough ... given what happened in the past I think he'd play by the rules the next time around ... he's very talented and has a lot to offer this community ... I say 'welcome back' |
