My children will both be marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Washington DC this weekend. Unfortunately, I won't be going with them. :(
If anyone in the area is attending I would LOVE LOVE LOVE some pics of my girls during the parade. They will be marching with Clay County High School Band (the Blue Devils).

ooh ... any other weekend I would definitely do that for you, but I'm leaving for Georgia tomorrow (Friday) afternoon for a week. Sorry! |

If I go, I'll be marching with the Potomac Valley Irish Wolfhound Club, so unless the band is somewhere near my dog club (and it's a BIG parade) the chances aren't good. |

I wish I was going. Its taken me a year to pay for the girls to take this trip, they have a cruise and 5 different tours and the parade in the 4 days they'll be there. Taylor asked yesterday if she could take the 20D with her, I said NO WAY!@!!!.... but I think I'll go pick up some disposable cams for them to take so they can shoot the sights and all of their friends.
If anyone does plan to go to the parade and might get a chance to shoot, please let me know. :)

OK, I looked up the "order of march" and the Blue Devils are in the first division, so they should be towards the front of the parade (right behind the antique bikes and in front of *the* Hogettes). The IWs are towards the end of the second division, behind Bavarian folk dancers (???) and in front of the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance ... that should make for some interesting clashing music, I should think ;-) Weather looks OK with possible morning showers; much better than the all-day sleet I once marched in!! |

Oh thanks for the update, Mary - I was especially worried about the weather since its been changing so much the last few days. We're Floridian, I'm not sure my kids packed enough clothing for sleet or snow, but I did make them take hats & coats! :)
Something tells me our school knew the order of the parade... they're playing Danny Boy among their selection! lol That will be funny!
If you guys get a glimpse of them, Taylor plays flute and Savanah is in the colorguard (flags). :D
They were so excited when they left today, I know they'll have a good time even if it pours rain all weekend.

Shoot, I wish I would have read your reply before I headed downtown in order to focus (pun intended) my attention. ;)
Oh well, here's a bunch that I got today. It appears I need to re-educate myself on proper focusing technique though as several are a bit soft. Oh well... ;-)
If you find any that you like, let me know and I'd be happy to send you the original(s).

What, no pictures of the wolfhounds?! There weren't many of us (I suspect a failure to adjust clocks) but we got lots of oohs and aahs. And the usual complement of horse and saddle jokes .
Gorgeous marching weather; will post pix later from my marcher's perspective (if they turned out, of course). |

Sorry Mary, I had to split right after these pics as I was "supposed" to have a conference call for work (yep, on a Sunday of all things).
Never happened in the end. Sorry I missed your group though. |

We did our own poo patrol! Fortunately my dog wasn't one of the poopers ;-)
Most of the shots I took today were snapshots, more or less, for the club's website. Lots and lots of shots of dogs surrounded by children, since we spend much of the parade wandering along near the spectators so they can see the dogs up close and pet them if they want. Doing that, trying to watch my dog, keep up with the parade, and take pictures all at the same time is a bit challenging! Especially with the SLR with a zoom lens. I think I need more hands LOL.
Here're a few:

Nice shots Mary. I guess Idinic didn't really care that we took the time to post these pics for her. |
