Many thanks to Spencer Smith Park, about a ten minute stroll from my house. I'm overjoyed with two 7+'s in a row with shots of the icy waterfront walkway. The city has done a lot of work along this part of the waterfront, where we now have an outdoor skating rink /slash/ reflecting pool, playground, snack bar, restaurant, and park. It's a place where the city puts on a lot of great events throughout the summer, as well as some during the winter.

Construction is also underway on a peer that will lead out to a funky lighthouse, which I'm really looking forward to seeing. This is all making me quite happy to pay my property taxes, and for once I'm not being sarcastic! :-)

I thought some folks might be interested in seeing the growth of the ice on the walkway chains in a few shots. The three shots go in order of time.

1. The first shot was before the big storm. This is the normal amount of ice usually seen each winter from the waves of Lake Ontario hitting the wall and splashing up. (Not a challenge entry.)

2. The second was just after the big storm, showing more than the usual amount of ice, but we do get that much every few years. It's quite a sight to see the waves crash against the vertical wall and go straight up. Before kids, my wife & I used to go down during storms like that and see how close we dared to stand next to the crashing waves, which can go higher than the lightposts. (Entered in Free Study.)

3. The third is after a thaw, during which a lot of the ice melted away, but then it got cold again. It's looking a little grody at this point. (This was the only shot falling within the Ice challenge timeline.)

Cheers, and thanks for looking!

Slippy

These were two stunning shots, excellently executed and processed. Well done they both deserved their scores if not more.

Thanks Lori. I'm also pretty excited about all the work that's still going into the waterfront in our neighborhood. I just remembered, there's a webcam mounted on the new Visitor's Centre at the park. Check it out, it cycles through four views at the park!!!
