There is some very good software that can recover originals from the CF card itself long after even formatting it. Just a thought for future hick-ups.. sorry about the DQ dude. great shot and PP love it.

Why do I have a feeling we'll see a similar shot in the March Free Study? ;-)

Concur with others about the original being prefered over the submitted version; though the original could do with a touch of PP. That said, I also agree that the post processing applied to the submission is "dpc-voter-friendly" and would surely have ribboned.

Stunning image regardless; sorry 'bout the DQ.

**steps outside and looks for a building over 40 stories in the Phoenix area, let alone an actual downtown to shoot** :-P

Hi Noah,
I'm really bummed to hear that you got DQ'd on your entry.
When I saw your original, my eyes lit up and just had to go play:

---------- Original -------- --------- Edit 1 ------------ --------- Edit 2 -----------

I took your original and made 5 different exposures of it, and compiled them in an hdr. Did some selective sharpening, cloned out the yellow reflection on the building in the lower left, cleaned up the sky and burned the top a little more evenly to level out the banding then ran a light neat image on the sky only.

The second edit was one step further from the first edit, applying the Virtual Photographer's Radiant filter to give the glow and magic to the fog, masking out all the structures to retain their sharpness.

Hope you don't mind.
It's just another look at an amazing scene - wow - to have been there must have been absolutely breathtaking.

Brad,

Its nice to SEE instead of reading people's recommendations. Aferall, to me this site is a collective learning tool rather than a place to show off. One of the many renditions I had of this photo is actually similar to what you did and what previous posts have been recommending. I still personally prefer my DQ'd submission over the below..
Check it out here

Well done.

Brad, the first edit is wonderful and I would have given it at least two points above what I voted on the submitted version. I would love to see what you would do with the full sized image as I am sure it was hard to work off the smaller one.
