The most important skill to learn about post processing to use it in support of a good image, not save a bad one. The best 'photoshopping' is usually invisible to the discerning eye. You did well with this one.

Most of the lighting is from above which leaves dark rings under her eyes, but if you take care of that you will have yourself a very fine portrait.

I like what you did with the eyes, though I think I'd prefer it if the white reflection at the top of the eyes was removed.

It's called a Catch Light //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch_light and IMHO adds a great deal to the shot.

Super job on the little missy and great job rescuing the cluttered background as well IMO. And PLEASE don't remove the catch lights in her eyes.
