I loved your photo Point Lobos and even though I liked the color one you posted I think the blakc and white has more impact. As far as borders are concerned I think that they can help the photo if they are done right. Just like matting helps a print in the frame. Otherwise we would frame things without benefit of the mat. I never mark down because of a border unless it is so bad that it is gross and that has never happened on here yet. Great job on Point Lobos. |

I like borders, I think they halp frame the photo, offset it from the surroundings. Makes it more like an presentation/exhibition. BUT I generally only like simple, clean, small, white borders for photo display. |

I'm generally a border ignorer.
I hate to let a lousy border screw up a perfectly good image.
Some borders will enhance an image a little and others degrade it little, but for the most part I don't consider the border when voting an image and rarely add them myself anymore.

Someone may have a fantastic eye for a photo and lack in the design department which should not effect their photo mark. If there were categories for breaking down marks such as "over all presentation" than that would make sense, however, we're asked to judge the photo. And this is a 10..no doubt.
It's true that borders can enhance a photo, but I believe it wrong to increase a grade based on that as well, you have to mark the skill of the photographer! But hey, if everyone is handing out steller marks for pretty borders, then should I add them to all my own pics? lol
P.S. I'm not a supporter of borders myself, but that's irrelevent.
