Help Needed With B&W Pictures - DPChallenge Forums

Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120 f/4 S

Hello All,

I want to take a picture of my wife in B&W, but I want her necklace to remain gold in color. I have searched the site, but have been unable to find anything that tells me how to do it. So I figure its time to turn to the experts! Thank You in advance for your help.

Retusnavy - You are asking about selective desaturation. The tutorial that BAMartin recommends is a great starting point.

Or another way is to do all you editing, b&w conversion etc, and before rotating or cropping, zoom in and use the history brush carefully to bring the necklace back to base image.

History Brush...Hmmm could not find that. I'm using Photoshope elements 5.0.

can you mask in photoshop 5? If so, just do a new adj layer, hue/sat. Sat -100 mask then paint in black what you want back in color. Just my thought

Yeah, that would be my best bet. Convert to B&W (hue/sat, channel mixer, etc) then paint over the necklace so it stands out. If you can do that in Elements, that is...
