I took this in Washington D.C. this weekend. I have cropped it down, and leveled it out. Would like your opinion and comments if you have time. My son thinks it looks like a painting, not a subway station.

Thank you in advance.

My opinion is ... that ... there it is! ... a subway station taken from a high viewpoint. It does not look like a painting to me ... just a photo with not much interest in it at all. No people. No trains. No ... well ANYTHING but a platform with an annoying bright light in the foreground.

Sorry ... you asked ...

I have to agree with Greetmir, although brutally honest which can be a good thing... Maby a little lower angle, some motion blur of people waling around and maby streaks of light from passing trains mite uplift it a bit.

just my opinion though,

Now I'm no expert either, but you did put yourself out here on the forum, and I am in need of some down time from "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!!" so I'm going to respond.

Knowing the metro in DC, I have to agree with the other two guys. This is just the metro, empty, and not much to look at. I like the long exposure idea. Especially if you got a train coming and one going.

he's right...not much interesting in here...maybe if you had a young couple, one with bags packed, parting ways...that could make for an interesting shot...overall, it's a good shot, but it doesn't seem artistic. it would more likely than not bomb in a challenge. there are plenty of ways to make a subway shot an amazing shot, but a mostly emptie, clean, and seemingly seedless shot doesn't seem to show anything but a subway. what do want to show us? how could you use a subway to do that? like i said, this isn't a bad shot, it's just somewhat bland...

best regards,

I have a question, why did you take this picture? What interested you in this shot?
03/05/2007 01:44:40 PM · #8
I do see people in the shot. They are just so dark compared to the rest of the scene they are hard to see. The angle is interesting it just needs some more elements to add more interest. I would try to aim for a feeling in the shot. If you want to aim for a busy station wait for more people. If you want a feeling of desolation or solitude? A little tougher to capture while still creating interest. Not sure how to do it but anyways, thats me thinks.
