Merge to HDR uses the Exif data from the file you are using to determine if there is enough dynamic range to use Merge to HDR. You cannot use the same file processed in different brightness to do this. You will need an outside program to do it with on file, or do it yourself manually.

doing it yourself is really the best way to go anyway. by letting photoshop do it, it doesn't always work the best it could, that is it does it's job, but if you did it yourself it would look worlds better.

not that I know of, just make the layers in the right order. densist (sp?) on the bottom and work your way up, then use layer mask to bring highlights and shadows to where you want them to be.

Try this, I think it worked for me.
As you finish each frame...use the save for web option and name each file different. Then use each of those saved files for your composition to hdr.

If there isn't enough dynamic range in the images to construct an HDR composite then why do it?

Maybe for practice, to learn the process? I am just now trying HDR and got the same error. At this point I don't really care about the results and am just looking at how the process flows. |

That error does not come from the program not seeing enough dynamic range in the photos ... it come from seeing not enough dynamic range difference in the identical EXIFS ... strip the exifs using Save for web on the images (with altered EV Image/Adjust/Exposure) that you want to merge and you won't get that error.
