I always love when people discover prime lenses. In 1970 when I got started zooms were large, heavy, expensive and C#%@. That is usually what everyone starts with these days and they have improved alot. Now that you understand the power of primes, take a look at say the 85mm f1.8. Great little portrait, indoor sports lens. Don't forget to look at other primes that interest you. The 100mm f2.8 marco is a great macro and a wonderful 100mm prime. Have fun.

They are great lenses, I have a few prime M42 screw mounts that I use. Okay, they are manual focus, but they are sharp. Favourites are 50mm f1.7 and 28mm f2.8.

I have a Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro and I have been drooling over the 85mm f1.8. I love primes and I plan on buying a lot more in the future.

here is another one.

primes are the bomb.

they keep you involved with the subject - more so than a zoom - i think.
they generally have top notch optics
they are cheaper than zooms - generally.

gotta love primes. my current favorite is my 20mm 2.8. approximates the 35mm that I used to use on my old film system and the bokeh it produces is super-sweet.

I managed to get the MK1 off ebay and am extremely impressed with the build quality, even though i paid a little extra to secure the win.

This was done with the 50mm 1.8

That is so great to hear you like the lens. I ordered it about a week ago. I can't wait to try it out.

Thanks for the comments! I hope it isn't raining tomorrow so I can actually use it in good lighting.
