Picture this.
You're standing on the beach with sparkling water waiting and watching the small dot in the sky getting bigger. In a few seconds it comes closer and closer and pretty soon the roar of the engines hits you as the huge jumbo jet is literally on top of you as it lands at the airport not 80 feet away. A less than 200 feet fly-by.
Bar restaurants and beachgoers at the Maho Beach on St. Maartin have made this a regular attraction to go see.

Check out the take-off about 2/3 of the way into the video where beachgoers very literally are hanging onto the fence because they are in danger of being blown away.

Has anybody been to that location and taken pictures? It looks like a fabulous place for a photo shoot:-) I just would not want to be there for the take-offs:-)

I've flown in and out of there and got a lot of pictures there (and the nearby islands) way back before I got into digital cameras.
St. Barts (St. Bartholomew Island) is worse than St. Martin. The onshore breeze requires that the pilot fly over the mountain peak, then dive down to land on the runway that ends at the water's edge. We were cautioned by the rental car company not to stop at the top of the mountain because the planes just barely clear it as they make their approach to the airport. He also said that one taxi driver brags about the skid marks on the roof of his taxi. |

Wow... This is an awesome spot for plane watching. Do you think I could float the V-dub there for a reshoot? :D |
