I was wondering if anyone has noticed any trends in the the scoring of their entries that carries on through different challenges. I have entered 4 challenges now and seen the same trend in each one. I start at a point the first day then drop anywhere from 2 to 8 tenths over the next two days. The score stays fairly level for a few days then rises 1 to 2 tenths on the last two days.

Does this mean that quick voters are more generous, whereas by the third day of voting people are getting weary. Then the last day or two, maybe some are going back and upgrading some after comparison with others they viewed later?

What have others found in their scores and what do you think influences these variations? Coincidence?

It depends. If you starting with low score, it will rise with last days.

Yup, what Kinks said.

If you say are sitting on a 7 (I wish!) there is a lot more room for it to move down than up. If someone absolutely LOVES your photo they can give it +3 of its score. If someone absolutely hates it then they can give it -6. The trend for a high start will often, though not always obviously, go down.

The reverse is true for low scores.

Overall, although it is fun to look at the early scores, I tend to think I don't get a real idea of how my pic might do until about 50 votes.

First off, your score in the first hour or two is often meaningless - though it may give you a general feel - high, medium, low - it's usually too small a percentage of the final vote to be significant in the long run. But does that stop me from checking it every 5 minutes that first hour???? :)

Beyond that, oddly it seems (and this is entirely by memory, so subject to lots of fault) my scores seem to tend to be more stable the higher they are after about a day, and often seem more likely to creep up. Logically, Natator's point makes sense, but it seems that if people like your shot, it'll continue to pull in more 8s, 9s and 10s. The really freaky thing is to sit on a score over 7 all week (has happened only once for me), and to see a vote of 7 come in and be disappointed that it dropped your score. Normally, for me, a 7 is a pretty good vote!

It's the middling scores that seem to fluctuate the most for me - similar to the trend you're describing. But after you sit through 20+ challenges, they sort of start to blend together, and personally, I don't notice trends anymore. Every challenge becomes a new adventure...

I read this post when it first appeared but having never watched the scores couldn't comment. In this challenge that's ending tonight I noticed my score go up and down a little at a time but with an overall downward trend. Most interestingly today there was no up just a straight downward spiral. .2 down just today (with time left in the challenge) plus .3 down from the early high for .5 and change down overall.

I must say if I've learned one thing that is not to watch. Too pointlessly frustrating.

I've seen the same thing today, Techno, and dsidwell too. Our scores have been coming down pretty steadily all week, but a bit more of a dip today. Blah!

My score has dropped 4 tenths in the last 48 hours:( I guess the only upside is everyone seems to be going in the same direction.

Ditto with you guys! I dropped from a 5.5 all the way to a 5.3 in a couple hours. I was at a 5.6 or .7 early on and ended with a 5.4

You're so right. It's really really not worth it on these ones that are hard too.

Edit: It's funny though, I ended up in almost the exact same spot as my first picture (for the Book Titles): 30.2% (70/232) and 31.8% (43/135).

The trend for me this challenge is that I started out at a number then went up fairly decent and slowly but surely it is coming down. In the middle it went up and down but towards the end it is dipping. I have noticed that on my last few entries that has been the trend.

Right now my two scores are slowly approaching each other, and may cross before the Surprise challenge is over.
