We don't have Television so I heard this from a friend... didn't realise we had an eclipse coming so soon.. anyone else heard about this?

There is a lunar eclipse visible from every continent. It will be perfect for viewing from the UK.
Those in the western USA will miss out. The eclipse will be over before sunset there.

Yes... this will be a perfect opportunity to capture lunar eclipse images, weather permitting. Be sure to use a tripod for your maximum magnification image captures. I'd take a lot if I were you with the most clear detail you can.
Lunar eclipse images can be used in composites with other night images to great effect!
