Some pictures from last Saturday's wedding:

-

That's DPC's skylercall in the background. He helped me out with the wedding photography that day!

-

I love the look on the parent's face in this one.

- Whoa... wrong way, fella! :-)

By the way, except for the image on the 2nd line, all of these are unedited proofs ... straight out of the new Adobe Lightroom. This was my first "real" usage of LR to produce proofs.

Great shots, guys! Processing looks great too, I'm sure they're going to be thrilled with them.

I think LR's ability to manipulate the images ahead of any PS work is going to be a big boon. The only downside is the longer processing time. Not LR's conversion time, but my time in going through the images. LR's user interface is slower than RSP, plus, with more capability at hand, I spend more think time on the images as well.

The look great Terry! Nice and clean with interesting lines and angles.

nice pics.

I am curious as to what you were you using for lighting?

what settings did you have on your cam? iso shutter and fstop?

Nice! Did you use a flash for these two, or a high ISO?
-

What did you have for flash on this on, onboard?

The lighting is quite nice.

and about lightroom. Don't you find it fairly slow editing an image or what kind of computer are you using.

When I have used lightroom before it was click, wait, click, wait wait wait wait, click wait....

These were done with the 580EX. Flash angled upwards with the little white card pulled out and facing forward.

Actually, I had the lightsphere on the 580, and a slave flash set up on a stand. I had taken several images where the slave fired so that I had side lighting. Unfortunately, I didn't adjust the balance of the lighting ahead of time and I really don't care for the slide lighting too much on those images. But on this one, the slave didn't fire. So this is just illuminated with the 580+lightsphere.

That's a wicked cool shot. I wish to heck I could make photos like that...

Brand new Core 2 Duo 6600, overclocked abou 10%. And yes, I still find it fairly slow to "move around in". I've watched it export individual images, and the processor is fast! I'm assuming that's where RSP's technology went. But the user interface could still be sped up quite a bit.

Here's what I've found to help out so far:

Point LR at your images and tell it to "render standard previews" and then just let it do its thing. That's kind of what RSP was doing anyway. When it's done, the user interface speeds up considerably. Still not a speed demon, but better.

Focus, recompose. It works if they aren't moving very much. If they are, then just focus on the couple with a wider angle and crop later in Lightroom! ;-)

Brilliant addition. Always professional stuff from you!

I think there are lens quality and probably camera sensor quality issues, too. The clarity and detail in her hair is amazing - at least to me. Obviously lighting and good PP comes in to play, too.

I'm always awed when I see REALLY good wedding photography. Thanks for sharing. It's inspiring.

did you use an umbrella for your slave flash (when it did fire) or just fired straight on.

Yeah, like others have said, nice lighting. Things look well lit up with out harsh shadows, and things have nice tones.

No PP yet. But I do agree. That's the Canon 5D with the 24-70 2.8L lens. I *love* that combo. :-)

Yes, I had the umbrella on the slave. I think I had stepped too far forward and the umbrella (which is pointing forward) blocked the sensor so it didn't see the 580 go off.

In any case, the LS worked good in this instance. I really like the LS for some things. Not so much for others.

what camera settings were you getting on those shots? - or how much were you having to push the iso vs shutterspeed.
03/02/2007 12:18:06 PM · #24
All these shots are technically very well done! This just confirms that I need a new (better) lens!

For everything during the ceremony: ISO 200, f/4, 1/125th. I knew that wasn't enough to shoot without flash. I just counted on the flash light things up. :-)

During the candids I bumped the ISO up (ranging from 1000 to 1600) and dropped the f/stop down (2.8 to 3.5) depending on what I was doing.
