i had to wait until 2 o'clock in the morning for the northern lights to show up, so i'm pretty tired right now, too...;)

In general, my personal sampling indicates maybe 14.256% of the photos here are beautiful, engaging, and lovely to look at. "Eye Candy" denigrates them, but they are sweetness for my senses. They nourish the ganglion of both hemispheres. Congrats to our top photographers and my thanks for your vision as well as your ability to execute! And please, keep your best work coming!

But please, show me something new. Show me how you feel about a subject. Show me why this is meaningful to you. Show me your subjects' pathos, their joy, their desperation. Show me the connection between Tiger Wood’s cornea, the topography of the green, gravity variations on the course at Augusta, and the 3 year old’s (unexpected) fascination with the whole ethos of golf.

Deliver unto me a MIRV’ed "emotional payload" in the megaton range.

Not that I do this very well myself you understand!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Me too, show me the emotion/meaning! What makes me weep is just the basics that differentiate a photograph from a snapshot. Some concern for background, cropping, composition, focus (unless soft focus was a goal) and color balance. It has gotten harder to vote challenges with more entries, and whenever I vote one I vote the whole thing, not just 20%. I don't mind repetitive subjects all that much, except as muckpond said, loads of out of focus cat shots. ;-) But yeah, let's see what you FEEL about your subject.

Of course I shot in the last minutes for one of the basic challenges this week to keep my WPL team from not having enough entries and HATE my entry--but at least it's not a snapshot, though boring. hehe.

What's the definition of 'new'?

He-he. :D

Maybe, extreme out-of-the-box? Also known as score suicide! :P

Here's my $0.02 worth:

1- I'm tired of Scandanavian night shots (water, Aurora Borealis/Aurora Australis, windmills)
2- I'm tired of a big rock formation just off-shore at sunrise/sunset or at night.

Although I may try out #2 soon, I wouldn't expect it to do well with rock-tired voters. ;-)

Cats are blurry by nature.

As for getting tired of something, what's with all the RED shots lately, shheesh~

Flowers.

I love flowers - running through fields of wild flowers, picking flowers, growing flowers, smelling flowers...I even like taking pictures of flowers (on occasion). Granted, there are some phenomenal flower photos on this site, but there are just so darn many of them!!

I'm not entirely sure that Iceland qualifies as Scandinavian.. but I could be wrong.

Regardless, I'm with ya 100%

How long do you have to be a member to be tired of something? I just want to be prepared. I'm not tired of anything I've seen here yet.

Give it a couple of years anyway.. ;) Besides, you can be tired of a certain genre on a general scale and then still get blown away by something.. or you may never get tired of certain things ever.

Or.. you may get tired of certain things constantly mass-voted, but still want to hang them on your wall. The great conundrum.

I get a little tired of baby shots - Not all of them but the ones that are of mum or dad just holding baby looking at camera with direct flash - Too much like family snap shops - Great for family album - Not DPC.

After working in a camera shop and developing/sorting through thousands of photos, I can say that I can't stand seeing pictures of cats anymore. Well, to be fair, some cat shots are fine. But no more "Look! My cat is in the bathroom sink! How silly is that?" pictures.

Now *THAT* is a good idea for a challenge. Rather than giving a theme - noise, furniture, etc - give a sample photo and get everyone to do "their interpretation" of the shot.
