so, if i understand it correctly, ya'll are committing to comment on the first 20% or so that you vote on? |
That's right :) |

I say we start Sunday (furniture) and go from there. I will be in that challenge so I will be able to just comment and not vote. I am also entering RED so will comment those as well. Pencil me in for those 2 :) I will commit to at least 30% each.
For POSTHUMOUS: You have left me some very detailed comments so you are doing it anyway :) I hope the Critique Club resumes its activity level, you guys are great! :)

Looks like you have mistaken me for SHADOWS, close but no cigar.
just to get it correctly
we will comment on at least the first 20% of all challenges
but not vote on those that we enter, is that right? |

I don't understand the "don't vote on the ones you enter" part. Keep in mind that if everyone did that in the member challenges, you'd not get any votes! :-) |

Getting a random photo to critique is a real turn off for me as I'm sure it is with others. If you were presented with the option to pick and choose or get a random photo I guarantee you activity would pick up ten fold.

I dunno, just me, but I would be more likely to listen if they weren't voting and were entered... just my take... I don't vote on challenges that I enter anyway (a lot of people here are like that) so all this would change is, I would look closer at the competition in those challenges... but I understand where you are coming from... I just suggested it because people certainly would get a lot more comments from me (I enter every challenge I can) and others that do as I do might feel more comfortable about helping out if that was the case... I suppose it doesn't really matter if you vote or not I was just hoping it would entice more people to participate :) LOL |

I don't think that one week later is that big of a deal.

You're right, it's not that big of a deal. They are strained for participation though and the OP probably figured this would be a nice way to help people get useful comments. At least you know you will get at least one with everyone hitting their top 20-25% :) |

imho, if you've taken the time to comment on a photo, your judgment is more valid than that of a speed voter. You should vote. |

I agree. I can't understand why you wouldn't vote as long as you are there. |

see, i'm just the opposite. it is easy for me to comment/critique on some shots, but i like the challenge of being forced to look at something "outside of my box" and finding the good, the bad, the ugly, and the wonderful in it. eta: i've also found that i've learned the most from being "forced" to comment on the shots i normally wouldn't have looked twice at.
different strokes for different folks, i suppose
sorry for the temporary hijack.
i just hope my pictures are in the first 20% for all of ya'll. :)

You see that's not how I look at it. I don't need a random generator to force me to challenge myself. I could do that on my own and often do. Besides, it's the people who asked for the critique requesting the help not the critic so why should it matter if the critic isn't being challenged in the process? IMHO, more critiques would be made if there was a browse feature and really isn't that the goal?

I don't think selective choice would serve the Critique Club all that well, really. Right now everyone has an equal chance to get critiqued. If you made it selective, people would gravitate to the "better" shots simply because those shots are generally easier to critique. But there's nothing stopping anyone from commenting on shots of their choice after a challenge! Go for it! |

I would like to comment (more) but am I really qualified? Ok, you vote as you feel like it, but to critique an entry I guess you need some credentials. That being said, I believe that the entries that really need feeback are the ones between 4 and 6 - I think that at this level people are putting some effort into their entries (not so successfully) and can use some detailed comments. The question is, how many can take honest comments? |

Qualified?? Just comment your opinion. Tell what you like and don't like... people are tough in general and any comment you leave will be appreciated because you took the time :) |

As a voter with equal say your opinion is as valid as anyone else. Infact a large portion of DPC is made up of people like yourself, So wouldn’t the picture taker like to hear a voice from one of the majority.
Don’t forget, your opinion can’t be wrong, it’s your Opinion

i could manage about 10% but yes it felt good telling people how you see there images. On the comment of 'qualification', i wud just say that each one of us is surrounded by visuals all around us and have own own basic interpretation of those visuals. Being a good or excellent photographer has nothing to do with commenting becuase comment is 'your' viewpoint. A critique obviously reqires better knowledge of the art of photography. So keep going and keep commenting |

My targets are:
35% for RED
35% for FURNITURE
I am gonna vote in ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE so I probably won't comment a lot in that one... perhaps I will shoot for 15% |

I think if we strive for 20% regardless of entries or if we are in it that would be a good Idea.
We can of course push ourselves for a higher % but I think they have to be meaningful comments, not just 'nice one' etc.
Also that way we can call ourselves 'The 20%ers ' lol
