I've seen a few of these for auction and their innovative system interests me. Anyone know if these are any when compared to entry level Bogen or Manfrotto tripods?

Any suggestions on other tripod types that have the ability of being splayed to get low-to-the-ground shots would also be appreciated.

Aroo!

If you want to get your camera down low, look for a tripod that will let you reverse the center column so your camera hangs down under the legs.

I cannot give you any info/advice on the Benbo's.

I can give you alot of specifics on the Bogen Manfrotto 3021pro.
130.00 street price.
Aluminum w/ 3 leg sections and "snap locks".
Will put the camera at eye level w/ out raising the center column.
Center column is reversible and will extend PARALLEL to the ground.
Has an internal collar level, although I never need it with a ball head.
Weighs <5 pounds.
Legs will spread allowing you to photograph inches from the ground.
Comes in both silver(aluminum) and black.

I have many posts regarding this support. My opinion only.

I used the parrellel option in my infinity shot, Traveler 1, where I had a tapered beer glass, resting on a granite surface, with the camera mounted directly above the glass rim, viewing the inside.

I would urge people to actually consider how they are going to use an upsidedown camera hidden behind a tripod leg.

If using the centre column of a tripod extended is a no-no, doesn't reverse mounting the column amount to the same thing?

As for recommendations I'm with Flash, except it's the Manfrotto 055 Pro in the UK ;)
