There are a number of great shots where something is placed inside a lightbulb. How does one get the metal part off the bottom of the lightbulb without smashing the glass and cutting ones fingers to ribbons? |

My daughter holows them out and makes vases out of them. She give them to her friends and teachers. She's crafty.

if you want to pour water inside, you can drill a hole in the iron thing (don't know how that's called) and keep the hole out of your photo. trial and error, to find the right spot ;) after that put water inside (out of the tap) I used a bit of paint, put it on the hole and after that add water.

if you are very careful a propane torch works as well
(heating one spot so it blows out ... give you a nice hole as well )

you should go ahead and replace one with a compact florescent bulb now. you'll end up saving money in the end. :) |

I could just go buy a cheap lamp and some bulbs to get practice on the smoke shots as well.

my little brother and I acutally used to do, this when we were kids, for a totally different reason. We would gut them and hold fake flowers down in them, then build up wax over the hole. Then put it back into an UNPLUGGED lamp and make cheesy flower pot. That is until our mom made us stop wasting light bulbs. |
